Maltese, Roberta Metsola, 43, has been elected as the new president of the European Parliament for the second part of this term that will end in the spring of 2024.
Roberta Metsola the youngest woman to preside the European Parliament
Roberta Metsola has been elected President of the European Parliament. In her first speech as president, in Maltese language, she has said she will strive for equality and respect for the law to prevail.
This is the most important position obtained by a Maltese in the European institutions. She was first elected MEP in 2013, representing the Nationalist Party in Malta. Then elected as the first Vice President of the European Parliament in November 2020. Metsola is a lawyer specializing in European law and politics, she had worked at the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union and was legal advisor to the High Representative, Catherine Ashton .
Roberta Metsola then becomes the third woman and the youngest to preside over the European Parliament. Congratulations!
